Super Eagles and Chelsea of England star, Victor Moses is no longer in contention for the prestigious African Footballer of the Year Award.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF),yesterday released the the top three nominees for all the categories with Moses’ name conspicuously missing from the list.
Egypt and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah , Borussia Dortmund and Gabonese Star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegal and Liverpool player Sadio Mane are the three players contesting for the award .
Salah favorite to clinch the title, was instrumental in Egypt’s successful campaign in the World Cup qualifiers, which saw the Pharaohs reach football’s most prestigious competition for the first time since 1990.
Last week he won the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017, beating his teammate Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays for Borussia Dortmund.
Former Arsenal and Liverpool striker Asisat Oshoala remains in the running for Women’s Player of the Year alongside Chrestina Kgatlana (South Africa & UWC Ladies) and Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene(Cameroon & CSKA Moscow).
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is a finalist for the Coach of the Year, along with Hector Cuper (Egypt) and L’Hussein Amoutta (Wydad Athletic Club).
Nigeria’s Men’s National Team and U20 Women’s National Team have been shortlisted for National Team of the Year and Women’s National Team of the Year respectively.
The CAF 2017 African Player of the Year Awards Gala will be held in Accra on 4 January, 2018.
